Considering the hordes of Christmas shoppers, is it fair to say that SOME people have never had it so good?

I think you are right, some people, couples both in work, especially if they don't have any children, are very well off at the moment, however its deemed a major wrongdoing to say so - of course it doesn't hold true for those who have lost their jobs.... and its in acknowledgement of that, that saw Lord Young have to resign. BTW i visited a local tourist attraction yesterday, they told me they have never been so busy....
