Are Avalanches common on Vermont Ski Mountains?

Avalanches are common at any type of hill or terrain in ski mountains. There are some ski hills where avalanches can even be high risk even on the ski runs themselves. Whenever there is big slabs of snow that you see that look unsteady, do NOT stay in these areas, as they are prone to avalanches. Listen to the weather report carefully. If it says that there is supposed to be warmer temperatures followed by cooler temperatures, then there is a melting and thawing period, followed by a freezing theme, this can make a layer of ice over the snow pack. If there is more snow that falls, then that layer of snow is said to be very unstable, and that is what causes avalanches.
