Ferris bueller's Day Off question?

When the principal comes to the school to find Ferris, and Jeanie is there and she thinks that he is an intruder... How come she doesn't recognise him? I mean, it IS her principal, right? I didn't understand that bit... They looked face to face at each other and screamed, yet she didn't know who he was?
