Why are news reports in novels always accurate?

In the U.S you have to be pretty accurate or you can get fired,sued for slander defamation of character or your credibility can be called into question which means less people will listen to you or read your work which means less ratings and less ratings means less money. Less money pretty much means your getting fired. If your wrong you have to issue an recantment. There are alot of different things that can happen if you report a lie. Or at least a lie not sponsored by the government. Lol.
