How Safe is Harlem(W. 147th St)?

I'm going to be renting an apartment in April in Harlem, upper Harlem as in West 147th St. I'm going with a group of friends, about 6 guys. How safe generally will it be to walk a block or two to the train? Maybe drunk? haha...
