Is my fish really sick?

Okay so I have a Black Moor and I've had him for almost a year and he's always been healthy. He's gotten a lot bigger since I got him and the silver on his stomach extended up onto his sides - no big deal. But the problem I have is that recently - out of the blue - he got a pencil eraser sized spot on the top of his head, a smaller one by his eye, and a medium sized spot on his side. I immediately thought it was ick, and got medication. Didn't work, just made the spots go from white to a peachy color. So I changed the water and tried a different medication, also didn't work. So I changed the water again. I never had filter in with the meds, but he has a new one now that there isn't any. I also always put in stress coat when i change the water. He's acting and eating just as he always had, and the spots almost have an irredesence to them - so now I'm not so sure if he's really sick or just changing colors. Anyone have this experience before? What'd you do?
